Purchased at: Low Ball Louies – Mulberry, FL
Strong & woodsy (cedar and oak) right out of the starting gate! I think this is going to be a bold cigar.
The cigar ring design is a doubled band , one upper and one lower.
The upper band is pyramid shape with lots of silver eccentricities on a black background, with a silver rampant lion in the center shield with a background of a baby/sky blue.
The manufacturer name in the lower portion of the top band and centered in an embossed silver. The lower band is a clean white background with subtle hints of silver outlining a “batman” styled wing shape. With the stick name in a sharp black font.
Allow me to share with you, how this delicious and stout cigar played out for me tonight.
1st/3rd and initial lighting
The Covenant has an excellent draw out of this simple hole punch, in this box pressed beauty. The retro-hale is smooth and crisp, providing tastes of raisin and nutmeg.
This excellent cigar would be PERFECT on a winters day in front of a real wood fireplace. I can imagine it right now as I enjoy nice lingering puffs on this Covenant. It has such a nice aroma and as I mentioned… very woodsy, but in a pleasant way.
Through the smoking of this cigars
first third, I pickup on obvious tones of Cedar, Walnut, Leather, and some slight spiciness, but the spice seems to be sitting in the background.
The Covenant has a Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro wrapper. It is made with long filler leaf from the Estelli and Ometepe volcanic areas of Nicaragua. Esteban Carreras also released the Chupacabra cigar at the same time back in 2012; it’s another great smoke.
I am picking up on hint of cocoa, but leaning more towards a dark roast coffee or espresso, not an infused taste, just a rich pleasing aroma and flavor. The cigar does not seem to be burning in a real straight line, but the ash is firm and hangs on well.
The ash is gray pushing a white with very little to show of any blackening burn lines or veins within the ash, The hot glowing embers burn obvious and clearly seen underneath. Although it appears hot, this cigar has a cool burn and taste all the way through the entire smoke.
The cigar is producing a very obvious leather flavor on my palate now, and seems to be holding on with a touch of spiciness. Wish I had a nice Red Zin wine to go with this… a Burgundy would be nice and velvety with it as well. None in my bar right now, maybe on my next one I smoke I will make a point of getting a bottle. This is definitely a full bodied smoke, and not for someone just starting out in the hobby and passion of smoking cigars. This Covenant is for an experienced lover of the leaf. Again, I wish to thank my friend John for supplying me this cigar, and I am proud to say it is in my top listing at this time. Great smoke!
Overall a firm 9.0 rating!
